Bois de la chaise

In the early nineteenth century, the popularity of sea bathing attracted the first holidaymakers to the Noirmoutier coast.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Arriving by train in Pornic, they would then board the boats plying between the mainland and the landing jetty built on the Plage des Dames.

 

 

 

 

 

 

CThese rich holidaymakers soon started building places to live on the island, from beach chalets to mansions in the Bois de la Chaise.
