The area around l'Herbaudière developed in the late nineteenth century with the rise of the sardine fishing industry.

The port, built between 1869 and 1880 and subsequently converted, now houses yachts and fishing boats.

Many canneries and shipyards were built around the port from the mid 19th century onwards.

Today, shellfish, sole, conger eels, bream and bass are sold every day in the auction.
